Job summary

USLI is seeking a qualified attorney to serve as coverage specialist, providing guidance on complex litigation and evaluating coverage across claim types. The role focuses on oversight of coverage decisions and delivering legal opinions to claims staff.

Qualified candidates will have a JD and 1–5 years (or 3–7 in claims) experience, strong negotiation and communication skills, and proficiency with Westlaw. The position includes occasional travel and a hybrid work arrangement with limited remote

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate (JD) required.
• 1–5 years of law firm or litigation experience and/or 3–7 years of claims handling experience.
• Strong knowledge of Westlaw and ability to perform efficient legal research.
• Passion and drive can be as important as experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as internal claims counsel to support claims adjusters.
• Identify, evaluate, and analyze coverage issues.
• Draft comprehensive coverage and denial letters to policyholders.
• Manage outside counsel in litigated matters.
• Negotiate settlements within evaluation and authority levels.
• Perform legal research and provide opinions; summarize trends for internal dissemination.
• Occasional travel.
