Job description

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Civil/Railway position. At the core of our Transportation practice is the desire to be good stewards of the public's resources while incorporating improvements into the surrounding environment. As engineering professionals, we plan, design, and permit railway projects and observe construction efforts across the U.S. and abroad. Position Overview

This role primarily involves designing railroad track and yard projects, along with related construction observation. Candidates should be able to handle multiple projects, follow directions from various supervisors, and coordinate with team members. We welcome entry-level candidates eager to learn and grow, as well as experienced professionals looking to expand their project portfolio and leadership skills.

A Typical Day
  • Collaborating on project teams as a designer and construction observer
  • Coordinating and communicating construction activities and onsite materials testing
  • Leading or assisting with field investigations, analysis, calculations, and preparing civil plans, specifications, and estimates for rail projects
Qualifications

We seek candidates with the following skills and background:

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with CAD; willingness to learn MicroStation
  • Experience with MicroStation Connect / Open Roads is a plus
Soft Skills
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Effective relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Sense of urgency and initiative to meet deadlines
Education & Experience
  • 0-3 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering or related; FE/EIT desirable
  • 3-6 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering with transportation coursework; P.E. or ability to obtain within 1 year; experience in transportation design or rail construction observation a plus; Master's preferred
  • 6+ years: Bachelor's with transportation coursework; P.E. or ability to license within 6 months; minimum 2 years in railroad design or rail construction observation; Master's preferred
Compensation

Annual pay ranges from $72,000 to $110,000 depending on experience.
