Qualifications

Job description

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Civil/Railway position in one of the following offices:

  • Kansas City
  • Chicago
  • St Louis
  • Springfield
  • Peoria
  • Corpus Christi
  • Houston
  • Sarasota
  • Indy
  • McHenry
  • Bellevue

Position Profile

This position will be primarily responsible for the design of railroad track and yard projects and related construction observation efforts. The role requires the ability to work on various projects, take direction from multiple supervisors, and coordinate with other staff. It offers opportunities for entry-level individuals to learn and grow, while more experienced candidates can expand their project repertoire and leadership skills.

A Day in the Life of a Civil Railway Designer at Hanson

  • Work on project teams as a designer and construction observer
  • Construction Observation: Coordinate and communicate field activities with contractors and designers; observe onsite materials testing
  • Design/Engineering: Lead or assist with field investigations, analysis, calculations, and the preparation of civil plans, specifications, and estimates on rail-related projects

What We're Looking For

Qualifications include:

Technical Skills:
  • CAD experience and/or willingness to learn MicroStation
  • Experience with MicroStation Connect / Open Roads is a plus
Soft Skills:
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Effective relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Sense of urgency and self-initiative
Education/Training:
  • 0-3 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering or related field; FE/EIT certification desirable
  • 3-6 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering, P.E. license or ability to obtain within 1 year; experience in transportation design or rail construction observation preferred; Master's degree a plus
  • 6+ years: Bachelor's in civil engineering, P.E. license or ability within 6 months; minimum 2 years' experience in railroad design or construction observation; Master's degree preferred

Pay Range: $72,000 - $110,000 depending on experience.

  • Valid driver's license and passing e-Railsafe background check required
