Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Civil/Railway position.

At the core of our Transportation practice is the desire to be good stewards of the public’s resources while incorporating improvements into the surrounding environment. As engineering professionals, we plan, design, and permit railway projects and observe construction efforts across the U.S. and abroad. We are seeking candidates for a full-time Civil/Railway position in one of the following offices:

  • Kansas City
  • Chicago
  • St Louis
  • Springfield
  • Peoria
  • Corpus Christi
  • Houston
  • Sarasota
  • Indy
  • McHenry
  • Bellevue

Position Profile: This role involves designing railroad track and yard projects and related construction observation. The candidate should be able to work on various projects, take direction from multiple supervisors, and coordinate with staff. Entry-level candidates will have opportunities to learn and grow, while experienced candidates can expand their project scope and leadership skills.

A Day in the Life:

  • Work on project teams as a designer and construction observer
  • Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with contractors and designers
  • Coordinate and observe onsite materials testing
  • Lead or assist with field investigations, analysis, calculations, and preparation of civil plans, specifications, and estimates on rail projects

Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

  • CAD experience and/or willingness to learn MicroStation
  • Experience designing with MicroStation Connect / Open Roads is a plus

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Effective relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Sense of urgency and self-initiative

Education/Training:

  • 0-3 years: Bachelor’s in civil engineering or related; FE/EIT desirable
  • 3-6 years: Bachelor’s in civil engineering with relevant coursework; P.E. or ability to obtain within 1 year; experience in transportation design or rail construction observation a plus; Master’s degree a plus
  • 6+ years: Bachelor’s in civil engineering; P.E. or ability to be licensed within 6 months; minimum 2 years in railroad design or rail construction observation; Master’s degree a plus

Pay Range: $72,000 - $110,000 per year depending on experience.
