Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a full-time Civil/Railway Engineer

At the core of our Transportation practice is the desire to be good stewards of the public's resources while incorporating improvements into the surrounding environment. As engineering professionals, we plan, design, and permit railway projects and observe construction efforts across the U.S. and abroad. Locations: Kansas City, Chicago, St Louis, Springfield, Peoria, Corpus Christi, Houston, Sarasota, Indy, McHenry, Bellevue

Position Overview

This role primarily involves designing railroad track and yard projects and overseeing related construction activities. It requires the ability to work on various projects, follow multiple supervisors' directions, and coordinate with team members. Whether you're an entry-level professional eager to learn or an experienced candidate looking to expand your project scope and leadership skills, this position offers growth opportunities.

Daily Responsibilities
  • Participate as a designer and construction observer on project teams
  • Coordinate and communicate construction activities and onsite materials testing with contractors and designers
  • Lead or assist with field investigations, analysis, calculations, and preparation of civil plans, specifications, and estimates for rail-related projects
Qualifications
Technical Skills:
  • CAD experience and willingness to learn MicroStation
  • Experience with MicroStation Connect / Open Roads is a plus
Soft Skills:
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships and meet deadlines
Education & Experience:
  • 0-3 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering or related field; FE/EIT certification desirable
  • 3-6 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering with relevant coursework; P.E. license or within 1 year of obtaining it; transportation design or rail construction experience preferred; Master's degree a plus
  • 6+ years: Bachelor's in civil engineering with relevant coursework; P.E. license or within 6 months; minimum 2 years in railroad design or rail construction observation; Master's degree a plus
Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $72,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on experience.
