Job description

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Civil/Railway position in one of the following offices:

  • Kansas City
  • Chicago
  • St Louis
  • Springfield
  • Peoria
  • Corpus Christi
  • Houston
  • Sarasota
  • Indy
  • McHenry
  • Bellevue

Position Profile

This role primarily involves designing railroad track and yard projects and overseeing related construction activities. The candidate should be capable of managing multiple projects, following directions from various supervisors, and coordinating with team members. Entry-level applicants will have opportunities to learn and develop, while experienced candidates can expand their project experience and leadership skills.

A Day in the Life of a Civil Railway Designer at Hanson

  • Work on project teams as a designer and construction observer
  • Construction Observation
    • Coordinate and communicate field activities with contractors and designers
    • Observe onsite materials testing
  • Design and Engineering
    • Lead or assist with investigations, analysis, calculations, and preparation of civil plans, specifications, and estimates for rail projects

What We're Looking For

Qualifications include:

Technical Skills:
  • Experience with CAD and willingness to learn MicroStation
  • Experience with MicroStation Connect / Open Roads is a plus
Soft Skills:
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Effective relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Sense of urgency and initiative to meet deadlines
Education/Training:
  • 0-3 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering or related, FE/EIT certification desirable
  • 3-6 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering, P.E. license or eligibility within 1 year, transportation design or construction observation experience preferred, master's degree a plus
  • 6+ years: Bachelor's in civil engineering, P.E. license or within 6 months, railroad design or observation experience preferred, master's degree a plus

Pay Range: $72,000 - $110,000 annually, based on experience.
