Job description

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Civil/Railway position. At the core of our Transportation practice is the desire to be good stewards of the public's resources while incorporating improvements into the surrounding environment. As engineering professionals, we plan, design, and permit railway projects and observe construction efforts across the U.S. and abroad. Position Profile

This role primarily involves designing railroad track and yard projects and related construction observation. Candidates should be able to work on various projects, follow directions from multiple supervisors, and coordinate with staff. Entry-level candidates will have opportunities to learn and grow, while more experienced candidates can expand their project scope and leadership skills.

A Day in the Life of a Civil Railway Designer at Hanson
  • Collaborate on project teams as a designer and construction observer
  • Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with contractors and designers, including onsite materials testing
  • Lead or assist with field investigations, analysis, calculations, and preparation of civil plans, specifications, and estimates for rail projects
Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • CAD experience and/or willingness to learn MicroStation
  • Experience with MicroStation Connect / Open Roads is a plus

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Effective relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines

Education/Experience:

  • 0-3 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering or related; FE/EIT desirable
  • 3-6 years: Bachelor's in civil engineering, P.E. license or within 1 year, experience in transportation design or rail observation a plus, Master's degree a plus
  • 6+ years: Bachelor's in civil engineering, P.E. within 6 months, experience with railroad design standards or rail observation, Master's preferred
Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $72,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on experience.
