Responsibilities

  • Prepare and develop roadway and transportation design plans in accordance with IDOT standards, manuals, and procedures.
  • Perform engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and design documentation for project phases (Phase I/II/III).
  • Apply IDOT design criteria including geometric design, drainage, maintenance of traffic, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with project managers, CAD staff, and other discipline engineers.
  • Review and check design work prepared by junior engineers and technicians for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation of project deliverables, reports, and contract documents.
  • Participate in IDOT coordination meetings and respond to agency comments as needed.
  • Support project schedules and deliverable deadlines through efficient design production.
  • Maintain familiarity with current IDOT policies, manuals, and evolving standards.

Project Engineer (Civil)

Position Summary

The Project Engineer is a mid-to-senior level technical role responsible for the design and development of transportation infrastructure projects. This position focuses on delivering high-quality design plans, specifications, and calculations while supporting project managers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong transportation experience who contributes as a senior technical resource without direct project management or Engineer of Record responsibilities.
