Job summary

Thomas, Thomas, and Hafer, LLP (TTH) seeks a detail-oriented Paralegal to support attorneys in civil litigation defense across state and federal matters. The role emphasizes organization, document management, and trial preparation to back a fast-paced defense practice.

You will draft pleadings, manage case files, conduct legal research, coordinate depositions, and assist with e-filing while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. NJ office-based position.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or paralegal certificate required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Prior paralegal experience in civil litigation defense preferred; insurance defense or general liability experience a plus.
• Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures and court rules.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency with legal research tools, e-filing systems, and case management software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a legal team.
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with all phases of civil litigation, from intake through trial and resolution.
• Draft, proofread, and format pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, correspondence, and subpoenas.
• Organize, manage, and maintain case files, discovery materials, and exhibits in both physical and electronic formats.
• Conduct legal and factual research to support case strategy and attorney preparation.
• Coordinate and schedule depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial logistics.
• Communicate with clients, insurance adjusters, court personnel, expert witnesses, and opposing counsel as directed.
• Prepare and organize trial exhibits, binders, and materials; assist with trial preparation and support.
• Track case deadlines, statutes of limitations, and court filing requirements using case management or calendaring systems.
• Assist with e-filing in state and federal courts.
• Review and summarize medical records, depositions, and other case documents.
• Support attorneys with discovery management, including document review and production.
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
