Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Drilling Unit of the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations. You will supervise and review complex drilling and geothermal plans to ensure they meet NYC DEP standards, protecting critical water supply infrastructure.

Preferred candidates hold a NYS PE license, a related Master’s degree, and have strong communication skills to coordinate with applicants and agencies.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time civil engineering experience.
• A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License must be maintained during employment.
• A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve complex drilling and geothermal plans.
• Ensure compliance with DEP rules, standards, and engineering practices.
• Maintain detailed records and prepare reports and correspondence.
• Present findings and respond to inquiries from applicants and stakeholders.
• Coordinate with internal and external parties to manage plan reviews.
