Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer (Assistant Design Engineer 1) for BEDC’s Civil Section at our Queens headquarters. Under supervision, you will assist in designing and delivering capital projects for water supply and wastewater facilities, preparing drawings, calculations, and specifications.

Preferred candidates have a civil engineering degree, strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills, and the ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and construction phase of capital projects by preparing drawings, calculations, and specs.
• Conduct investigations and field visits to support project design.
• Review shop drawings and RFIs; prepare change orders.
• Assist in project scheduling and coordination with engineers and stakeholders.
• Document issues and resolutions in issue logs.
