Qualifications

Overview

The Materials Section at the Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) is hiring a Civil Engineer to work as a Pavement Materials Engineer. This position is within the Bituminous Material Unit, and will work closely with management to develop and implement Pavement Materials recommendations, conduct scoping and design efforts on Agency paving projects, and assist in the implementation of the paving specifications. As a Pavement Materials Engineer, this position collaborates closely with personnel in the Asset Management, Roadway Design, and Construction teams at the Agency.

Major job duties of this position may include:

  • Review and development of material and pavement specification
  • Review of mix designs and producer compliance with specification and quality assurance requirements
  • Conducting materials investigations, pavement condition and structural evaluations
  • Develop and implement requirements for Balanced Mix Design of asphalt mixtures
  • Develop pavement thickness design, and materials recommendations
  • Post-Construction pavement evaluation and failure investigations
  • Pavement profiler operation and profile surface design

The ideal candidate enjoys problem solving, working both independently and as part of a team, spending time in both the field and office environments, and has excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position reports to the Construction and Materials Bureau Headquarters in Berlin, VT, and some remote work will be possible.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND two (2) years of engineering experience.
OR
Associates degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND four (4) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern.
