Job description

An established engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer I to join its Glenwood Springs team. This opportunity combines technical leadership, project management, client relationship development, and mentorship on complex civil engineering projects throughout Western Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West.

The Civil Team delivers commercial, residential, municipal, and institutional site development projects, including mountain residences, ranch estates, schools, public infrastructure improvements, and mixed-use developments. Clients include local governments, ski resorts, developers, architects, and property owners.

Projects address land development, infrastructure, grading, drainage, utilities, transportation, and floodplain management. The work requires practical engineering judgment and creative problem-solving in mountain communities with unique design and construction challenges.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about living and working in Western Colorado and contributing to a collaborative team focused on practical solutions, technical quality, and long-term client relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets with minimal oversight.
  • Independently manage scope, budget, schedule and client expectations across multiple projects or major components of complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Lead competitive proposal pursuits and contribute to strategic business development.
  • Direct, mentor, and review the work of junior engineers, supporting their technical growth and professional development.
  • Provide advanced technical leadership, creative problem-solving, and sound engineering decision-making.
  • Serve as a QA/QC reviewer and technical authority for engineering deliverables.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record for applicable projects and review work prepared by internal staff and external consultants.
  • Support critical construction milestones, field troubleshooting, and project execution.
  • Maintain and strengthen key client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and Client Service Manager.
  • Coordinate with public agencies, elected officials, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
  • Resolve project and client issues while maintaining strong professional relationships.
  • Support or lead team management activities, including supervision of direct reports where applicable.
  • Develop new client relationships and identify opportunities to expand services.
  • Lead or support new technical services, practice areas, and business initiatives.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, strategic planning, and sector-wide business development.
  • Provide oversight and technical guidance for CAD production and fieldwork, with limited direct production responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Colorado and New Mexico, or the ability to obtain reciprocal licensure within 90 days of hire.
  • 12-22 years of progressive civil engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design practices, project delivery methods, and industry standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in Civil 3D and related design, data collection, analysis, and project management software.
  • Expert-level hydrologic and hydraulic analysis experience using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, HEC-SSP, and related modeling platforms, including working knowledge of 2D hydraulic modeling.
  • Significant experience in site development, land development, municipal infrastructure, floodplain analysis, stormwater management, drainage design, or related civil engineering disciplines.
  • Thorough understanding of engineering project safety requirements and risk management practices.
  • Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve complex technical and project challenges.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong client management, negotiation, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to balance creativity and innovation with sound engineering judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to technical excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring developing engineers.
  • Established relationships within Colorado's development, municipal, and engineering communities.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record and managing projects from planning through construction.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality projects that positively impact Western Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.
