Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. seeks a Civil Engineer to support the DOE’s Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This full-time role is based in Oak Ridge and involves civil design, field support, and coordination with project teams.

Responsibilities include developing detailed engineering packages, providing field technical support during construction, and performing facility walkdowns to verify conditions and documentation. DOE-level collaboration is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with a minimum of 5 years experience.
• Citizenship: United States to be considered due to federal nature of work.
• Ability to obtain and maintain government clearance if needed.
• Experience developing detailed engineering design packages for industrial or complex facilities.
• Experience providing engineering procurement support and field technical support through design implementation and construction.
• Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, theories, practices, codes, and standards.
• Experience designing stormwater management and storm drainage systems.
• Experience with roadway design, site development, grading, and drainage.
• Knowledge of soil evaluation and geotechnical considerations.
• Ability to perform technical assessments and evaluations of existing facilities.
• Experience conducting facility walkdowns and field investigations.
• Ability to provide field engineering support during construction.
• Ability to develop technical solutions to civil engineering problems.
• Knowledge of design codes and industry standards.
• Experience coordinating outside engineering firms and contractors.
• Ability to work in an integrated multidisciplinary team.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering tasks.
• Experience providing input to system engineers and operations.
• Ability to develop constructible design documentation.
• Willingness to perform field work in an active production environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality detailed design packages.
• Provide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement designs.
• Provide expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant facilities.
• Work as part of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for multidisciplinary tasks.
