Job summary

APTIM Federal Services, LLC is seeking a mid-level Civil Engineer in our Norfolk, VA office to support Federal contracts. The role covers environmental site characterization, remediation, site work, and restoration with field duties, design tasks, and mentoring junior staff.

The candidate should have 4+ years in civil/environmental engineering, a BS/MS in the field, FE exam progress toward PE, OSHA HAZWOPER training, and proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD. Travel and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4+ years' work experience in civil and/or environmental engineering.
• BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and on track to obtain a Professional Engineer license.
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with current 8-hour refresher certificate required.
• USACE Construction Quality Management Training preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD and other engineering software programs.
• Ability to wear proper PPE for work on hazardous waste sites; lifting and physical work will be required.
• Must be able to work in the field in all types of field conditions/weather.
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Willingness to work occasional overtime, including weekends, to meet project deadlines.
• Ability to frequently travel to worksites that would require overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with current engineering staff in interpretation of engineering data and design documents.
• Apply engineering skills to complete tasks and manage time to meet schedule and budget targets.
• Prepare work plans including erosion and sediment control and stormwater pollution prevention plans.
• Collect environmental samples and assist with remedial actions.
• Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes and company policies and procedures.
• Monitor regulatory requirements and stay updated on trends.
• Mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
• Maintain a Safety First work ethic.
