Job summary

gpac is seeking a Civil Engineer / Project Engineer to support planning, design, permitting, and construction of commercial and residential developments across East Central Florida. The role covers site development, grading and drainage, water distribution, and wastewater collection systems.

Responsibilities include preparing site plans, feasibility studies, construction documents, and cost estimates, with collaboration across PMs, surveyors, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Civil Engineer - Commercial Site Development & Water/Wastewater Location: East Central Florida

Position Overview

A well-established Engineering firm is seeking a Civil Engineer / Project Engineer to join our team and support the planning, design, permitting, and construction of commercial and residential development projects throughout East Central Florida. This position is well suited for an engineer who enjoys a broad range of civil engineering work and wants hands‑on experience with commercial site development, grading and drainage, utility design, water distribution, and wastewater collection systems. The engineer will work closely with project managers, clients, surveyors, contractors, utility providers, and regulatory agencies to develop practical, cost‑effective engineering solutions from the conceptual design stage through permitting and construction.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Site Development

• Prepare and develop commercial site plans and construction documents for retail, office, industrial, institutional, and mixed‑use developments.
• Develop conceptual layouts, feasibility studies, and preliminary engineering plans.
• Perform site layout, grading, earthwork, drainage, and utility design.
• Prepare detailed civil construction plans, details, and specifications.
• Develop preliminary and detailed construction cost estimates.

Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection

• Design and develop potable water distribution systems serving commercial and residential developments.
• Design sanitary wastewater collection systems, including gravity sewer and force main systems.
• Prepare utility layouts, profiles, details, and construction plans.
• Perform water and wastewater demand calculations.

Stormwater & Drainage

• Assist with stormwater management system design for commercial and residential developments.
• Design stormwater collection systems, storm sewer networks, detention/retention facilities, and related drainage infrastructure.
• Perform or assist with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
• Prepare erosion control and stormwater pollution prevention plans.
• Assist with floodplain analysis and stormwater permitting.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in land development / civil site design / water & wastewater.
• Understanding of fundamental civil engineering principles related to grading, drainage, utilities, and site development.
• Ability to read and prepare civil engineering plans.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet project deadlines.
• Proficiency with or willingness to develop proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D/ICPR.

Preferred

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or progress toward licensure.
• Experience with commercial land development projects.
• Experience designing water distribution and/or sanitary sewer collection systems.
• Experience with hydraulic or stormwater modeling software.
