Job summary

Burgess & Niple, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer Co-op to gain hands‑on experience in civil infrastructure design, working with both early career and seasoned engineers on projects that matter to communities.

You will develop practical skills and problem‑solving abilities that lay a foundation for your career. You will participate in site inspections, field and office tasks, and learn AutoCAD or MicroStation while growing professionally in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student in good standing pursuing a B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (one year completed).
• Ability to lift manhole covers up to 80 lbs.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Ability to learn PDF markup tools such as BlueBeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

• Be part of the project team under supervision of Professional Engineers, performing manhole inspections in Canton sewer systems.
• Locate manholes using GPS and inspect for infiltration and cracks; take photos with a tablet.
• Assist with field work and office work.

Gain practical experience in civil engineering with our team as a Civil Engineer Co-op. In this role, you'll work alongside early career and experienced engineers to gain an understanding of civil infrastructure design and consulting. You'll gain hands‑on experience while developing technical skills and problem‑solving abilities that will create a foundation for your career.

What You’ll Do

• Be a part of the project team and under the supervision of Professional Engineers, performing manhole inspections throughout the City of Canton sewer systems
• Provide knowledge of municipal infrastructure in a reali0life application of civil engineering
• Locate manholes using GPS (survey equipment), taking pictures using a tablet, and inspecting for infiltration and cracks
• Assist with field work and office work

Skills & Qualifications

• Current undergraduate student in good academic standing pursing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Surveying or Mapping or related field from an ABET-accredited program and completion of one year coursework required
• Ability to lift manhole covers up to 80lbs
• Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Ability to learn PDF markup/review tools, such as BlueBeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to learn AutoCAD or Microstation design software packages, direct experience is a plus
• Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate, learn, and grow
• Availability to work full-time during Summer of 2027
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record; some travel may be required

Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 30 - 40 hours per week. Housing and transportation to/from work is the responsibility of the co‑op, parking is provided.
