Job summary

Salt Lake County seeks a Circulation Clerk to provide public service at the Circulation Desk, process loans and returns, handle payments, and assist patrons with library services. The role requires basic cash handling, data entry, and strong customer service skills in a public library environment.

Training on library software and cash handling will be completed within 60 days of hire. A background check is required, and shifts include day/evening hours as needed.

Qualifications

• One year of direct customer service experience.
• Must complete library software and cash handling training within sixty (60) days of hire date.
• Must pass a required pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

• Provides public service at the Circulation Desk in person and on the phone.
• Collects payments for fines, fees, book sale items, and supplies.
• Resolves customer account problems and negotiates waivers as appropriate.
• Checks library materials in/out, places holds, renews items, and retrieves materials.
• Trains patrons to operate library equipment and troubleshoots basic malfunctions.
• Reviews and issues library cards after eligibility verification.
• Provides information about borrowing policies and services.
• Fills and processes hold requests.
• Uses PC and payment transaction systems and library equipment.
• Assists with technology troubleshooting for patrons and in-house PCs.
