Job summary

NSA’s Linguists, known as Multidisciplined Language Analysts (MDLAs), are recruited to analyze, transcribe, and translate foreign language materials to support SIGINT missions. The LADP offers up to three years of intensive training with multiple operational tours across offices, including on‑the‑job tours rather than classroom language teaching.

MDLAs may be considered for LADP or direct hire into analytic mission offices; ILR level 2/2 reading/listening is required for the target language.

Qualifications

• A degree in any field is acceptable.
• At least one year of relevant experience in either language work (translation, transcription, language instruction, or analysis) or related fields such as intelligence analysis, international relations, security studies, journalism, law, STEM, or cybersecurity.
• Minimum ILR level 2/2 in reading and listening for the target language; entry/developmental paths accept lower levels per the schedule.
• Full Performance level requires progressive experience and may include leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Offer policymakers and military leaders insights by analyzing, transcribing, and translating key information.
• Research cultures and geopolitical contexts to understand how they fit into the larger intelligence picture.
• Apply new techniques to address analytic problems, including synthesizing large data volumes and disparate sources.
• Demonstrate understanding of communications and technology trends.
• Craft written and oral assessments providing unique insights not available from other disciplines.
• Work independently and collaborate across NSA and other IC analysts in research, analysis, and reporting.
