About Us

For over 90 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has impacted thousands of lives across Delaware. We are the largest licensed provider of childcare in Delaware and the only statewide Boys & Girls Club in the nation.

Each day, girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship. An increasing number of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need a safe place in their community where they can go. Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allowing them to meet with friends and be part of positive peer groups. Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution, and focus on character development. Clubs also provide positive role models and a nurturing environment that helps improve decision-making skills.

Position Summary

The Child Care Director, under the supervision of the Program Director, is responsible for planning, developing, and effectively implementing a quality early care childcare program that complies with current Delacare and Delaware STARS rules and regulations. This includes program management and staff supervision. The role requires knowledge of various educational approaches, software, and other educational materials.

Essential Functions
  1. Manage the day-to-day operation of the licensed preschool/childcare and summer camp program.
  2. Interpret and maintain compliance with current state licensing requirements for early care childcare centers; address non-compliance issues as needed.
  3. Control expenditures against an assigned budget; recommend income and expense projections; assist with financial development of the childcare program.
  4. Ensure safe implementation of all childcare activities, including equipment and facilities condition, age-appropriate activities, and proper use of equipment and supplies.
  5. Directly supervise children and youth within guidelines established by Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  6. Maintain regular contact with parents/guardians concerning programs, schedules, developmental progress, behavioral issues, payments, etc.
  7. Work with families to generate individual learning goals for children.
  8. Collaborate with the Club Childcare Director and Unit Director to establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate effectively.
  9. Organize and lead activities to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts, crafts, music, and storytelling.
  10. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and interests.
  11. Arrange indoor and outdoor spaces to facilitate creative play, motor skills, and safety.
  12. Observe, evaluate, and document children’s performance, behavior, social development, and physical health regularly.
  13. Conduct assessments to determine children’s development levels and needs, working through Ages and Stages and partnering with local school districts if needed.
  14. Develop and maintain systems for tracking attendance, payments, health checks, medical issues, and other related information.
  15. Complete and submit reports and perform administrative tasks, including purchase of Care reimbursements.
  16. Contribute to developing a positive identity and strong presence for the Boys & Girls Clubs in the community.
  17. Perform other tasks, assignments, and responsibilities as needed.
  18. Support and contribute to the success of other staff members.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Must be twenty (20) years of age or older.
  • Experience working with preschool and school-age children.
  • Ability to pass FBI clearance, State of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and Child Abuse Registry Check per Delacare regulations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent recognized by the Delaware Department of Education and TECE 1 and TECE 2.
  • One (1) year of full-time experience (equivalent to 1,000 hours) working with preschool or school-age children.
  • Early Childhood Administrator Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • School-Age Administrator Certificate.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field (early childhood, psychology, social work, special education, elementary education).
Working Conditions
  • Frequently lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds when preparing rooms for instruction.
  • Bend, stoop, walk, and sometimes run while interacting with children during various activities.
  • Perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; make quick, accurate decisions with tact and impartiality.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • High energy, comfort with multi-tasking, and ability to meet deadlines.
Work Hours

Monday - Friday; 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
