Child and Youth Program Assistant CY-01/02

Summary

This position is located at Defense Logistics Agency Richmond, VA Child Development Center.

  • Employees receive FREE childcare on the first child, 50% discount on the second child, and 15% discount on each additional child.
  • Recruitment bonus of $500.00 payable as a lump sum at the time of recruitment in accordance with regulation.
  • Retention bonus of $1000.00 payable at the twelfth month, distributed quarterly over 12 months.

Duties

  • Serves as a Child and Youth Program Assistant, maintaining control and safety of children and youth.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities to meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of participants.
  • Establishes a positive program environment that promotes interaction and engagement.
  • Prepares and maintains indoor and outdoor activity areas, accommodating children with special requirements.
  • Maintains participation data and completes daily reports.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of appointment.
  • Requires direct deposit setup and a Social Security Card.
  • Must meet qualification, eligibility, physical, and background requirements.
  • Current health assessment, immunizations, and compliance with Army and DoD policies are required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Successful completion of annual training and demonstrated competence are required.
  • May involve irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Satisfactorily pass employment verification (E-Verify).
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, and stand is necessary.
  • Legal obligation to report suspected child abuse/neglect.
  • Training in medication administration, CPR, and first aid is required for qualified individuals.
  • Travel may be required; work involves indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Must pass pre-employment background checks, including Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.

Qualifications

For Entry Level (CY-01):

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Higher levels require additional qualifications, as detailed in the Applicant Information Kit. College transcripts or certificates may be required for higher levels.

Education

Minimum high school diploma or GED; proof required at application. Education must be directly related to the position. All documents must be in English or translated.
