Muon Space seeks a Senior Director of Spacecraft Components to lead three subteams—Electronics & Embedded, Modules & Mechanisms, and Solar & Deployables—and deliver high-reliability spacecraft components across missions. The role is split between San Jose and Mountain View with regular onsite days at both locations.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience designing and/or managing the design of complex, high-reliability systems in harsh environments.
• 8+ years of people management experience, including engineers and engineering managers.
• Strong foundation spanning electrical, embedded, and mechanical design and analysis.
• Experience designing and manufacturing low-volume, high-mix products efficiently.
• Proven experience managing complex engineering projects from concept to deployment, including budget and schedule.
• Advanced degree(s) in Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary organization to architect, design, qualify, and deliver spacecraft components across electronics, RF, modules, mechanisms, and solar systems.
• Own component roadmaps balancing concurrent missions and platform evolution.
• Own component-level design, qualification, and test strategies with Hardware Reliability & Test.
• Provide engineering support to instrument and propulsion teams.
• Collaborate with Product, BD, Systems, Software, and Operations to meet portfolio needs.
• Partner with Production and Supply Chain to scale from prototype to constellation quantities.
• Own budgets, schedules, and delivery milestones for development programs.
• Mentor and grow multiple levels of team managers.
