Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical direction from requirements to installation on the launch vehicle. You will collaborate with structural, thermal, and electrical teams to deliver robust hardware for satellite missions.

Responsibilities include designing and testing mission-specific components, leading reviews, and managing vendor relationships. The role requires hands-on leadership and strong documentation practice.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, building, and testing high reliability hardware.
• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• CAD proficiency in component/assembly design (SolidWorks preferred).
• Mastery of drawings, GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, tolerances and mass budgets.
• Experience with ECO/DCO processes and PLM systems.
• Proven ability leading mechanical design for complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience leading a small team of engineers/technicians.
• Strong documentation: build procedures, test plans, DOEs and reports.
• Experience managing external vendors for prototyping and development.

Responsibilities

• Understand Muon's spacecraft platforms and tailor components accordingly.
• Design, build, and test mission-specific components and payloads.
• Create, analyze, and refine spacecraft system mechanical designs in SolidWorks.
• Design & document reusable components for Muon's common platform.
• Lead mechanical portion of internal and external design reviews.
• Interface with structural and thermal engineers for analysis.
• Lead component environmental testing campaigns (vibration, TVAC).
• Write documentation and build procedures unique to missions.
