Job summary

Muon Space seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical direction of satellite hardware from requirements to launch. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust components and manage the full lifecycle of electromechanical products.

The role requires hands-on design, structural and thermal analysis, supplier management, and leadership of a small team, with a hybrid on-site presence in San Jose, CA.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, building, and testing high reliability hardware.
• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks) for component and assembly design.
• Mastery of drawings, GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, tolerances, and mass budgets.
• Experience with ECO/DCO processes and PLM systems.
• Led mechanical design for complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience leading a small team of engineers/technicians.
• Strong documentation: build procedures, test plans, DOEs.

Responsibilities

• Understand Muon's spacecraft platforms and tailor components to meet mission needs.
• Design, build, and test mission-specific components and payloads.
• Create and refine mechanical designs in SolidWorks.
• Design reusable components for Muon's platform.
• Lead mechanical portions of internal and external design reviews.
• Interface with structural and thermal engineers for analysis.
• Lead component environmental testing campaigns.
• Write documentation and build procedures unique to the mission.
