Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer to own spacecraft component design and single-point-failure strategy. You will drive platform architecture, run complex test campaigns, and collaborate with structural, thermal, electrical, and systems teams across missions.

The role requires onsite work in San Jose three days per week, with leadership responsibilities in reviews and environmental testing. Strong CAD and PLM experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and testing high-reliability hardware.
  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for medium-to-large assembly design and management.
  • Mastery of drawings, GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, tolerance budgets, and mass budgets.
  • Experience with ECO/DCO processes and PLM systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency leading mechanical design for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience managing external vendors for prototyping and development.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical direction of your spacecraft component or mechanisms from requirements to launch integration.
  • Create, analyze, and refine mechanical designs in SolidWorks; tailor platform components.
  • Perform first-order structural, dynamic, and thermal sizing and coordinate with analysis groups.
  • Lead design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR) and environmental test campaigns.
  • Produce and release drawings, BOMs, and build procedures under configuration control.
