Job summary

Shelby County Government is seeking the chief executive and administrative head of the Shelby County Fire Department. You will provide strategic direction, oversee fire suppression, EMS, rescue, prevention, and emergency communications, and manage budgets and facilities to deliver professional and responsive services.

Candidates should have extensive command experience, strong leadership, and the ability to work with county leadership and partner agencies to protect life and property.

Qualifications

• Ten years of progressively responsible fire service experience with five years in leadership roles.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field; or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Master’s degree or professional executive qualifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs and administers all departmental functions through subordinate staff.
• Develops and implements strategic plan, goals, and policies in alignment with County objectives.
• Oversees budgets, staffing, equipment, and procurement for department operations.
• Executes emergency response oversight, incident command support, and coordination with partner agencies.
• Ensures personnel policies, training, and labor relations are administered per applicable rules.
