Job summary

City of New York's Department of Design and Construction seeks a Chief of Code Compliance to lead the Code Compliance Unit within the Office of Construction Safety. The role oversees site safety program reviews, SSP assessments for capital projects, and safety policy enforcement across projects.

The successful candidate will supervise Safety Code Compliance Auditors, develop safety training, update SSP templates, and coordinate with project teams to ensure regulatory compliance and safe delivery

Qualifications

• Minimum one bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and at least one year of supervisory or project management experience on large projects.
• A NYS license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect is preferred or can be earned.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, Building/Fire Codes) and experience enforcing safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Code Compliance Unit within the Office of Construction Safety.
• Review Site Safety Plans (SSPs) for capital construction projects and conduct pre-award safety evaluations.
• Maintain safety records and enforce DDC construction safety requirements per regulations.
• Supervise Safety Code Compliance Auditors and prepare safety reports, advisories, and SSP templates.
• Attend project meetings to ensure safety compliance and deliver trainings for staff and contractors.
• Develop and update procedures, templates, and guidance; communicate findings to project teams.
