Des Moines Public Schools seeks a dynamic Chief Academic Officer to lead teaching and learning, curriculum development, and district operations for the 2027–2028 year. The CFO will be a key advisor to the Superintendent and member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, guiding strategic initiatives with independent judgment.

The role requires extensive education leadership, data-driven decision-making, and strong communication with principals, staff, and the community.

Qualifications

• Education- and leadership-focused qualifications required for district-wide PK-12 administration.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and district finance.
• Ability to analyze data, communicate effectively, and manage personnel.

Responsabilités

• Develop short- and long-range goals aligned with the district’s strategic plan.
• Lead curriculum, assessment, instruction, and professional development for PK-12 programs.
• Support district-wide school improvement and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Advise Superintendent on curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
• Attend Board meetings and represent the district externally.

Formation

Master’s degree in School Administration + 30 graduate hours in superintendent program

Ed.S./Ed.D./Ph.D. in educational leadership/superintendency

Five years supervisory experience

Five years administrative experience in an educational setting

Administrator License with evaluator approval

Superintendent PK-12/AEA Administrator endorsement or eligibility
