Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

HireIQ are seeking a Chief Financial Officer for a family-owned New York City real estate developer, owner, and manager with a portfolio spanning residential, commercial, and hospitality properties.

Working directly with the CEO and closely with family ownership, the CFO will lead financial operations, manage a team of 10 accounting professionals, play a key role in financing and refinancing and shape the capital strategy for the existing portfolio. The company takes a measured approach to acquisitions, so the emphasis is on financing, managing, and improving the performance of its assets.

The opportunity is well suited to an accomplished Controller or senior real estate finance leader ready for a first CFO appointment, or someone in the early stages of a CFO career who wants direct involvement in key decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead financing and refinancing activity across the portfolio, from evaluating options and preparing lender materials to negotiating terms and closing transactions
• Manage lender relationships, debt maturities, loan covenants, and ongoing compliance
• Partner directly with the CEO and family ownership on financial strategy, capital allocation, and long-term planning
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial analysis, and monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
• Assess property-level performance, profitability, and valuations, and recommend ways to improve returns
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 10 accounting professionals
• Oversee tax planning, audits, and relationships with external tax and audit advisers
• Manage financial risk, insurance coverage, internal controls, and regulatory compliance in partnership with legal advisers
• Oversee and improve financial systems and processes, including Yardi Voyager
• Guide relevant IT initiatives and maintain appropriate systems and controls
• Support the assessment of selective new opportunities as they arise

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of accounting and financial controllership experience within real estate
• A strong, hands-on accounting background and experience with residential and commercial properties
• Demonstrated experience leading real estate financing and refinancing transactions and managing lender relationships
• CPA or MBA qualification
• Strong financial modelling and analysis skills, including advanced Excel proficiency
• Experience with Yardi or a comparable property management system; Yardi Voyager experience is particularly valuable
• The ability to lead a sizeable accounting team while working closely with senior leadership and family ownership
