Job summary

GH Engage is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead its finance function in the NYC/tri-state area. This senior role requires partnering with ownership to guide strategic financial decisions, manage controls, and oversee reporting for a growing construction organization.

The CFO will direct accounting, tax, risk, and treasury, implement scalable financial systems, and mentor the finance team while collaborating closely with project management leadership.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• MBA, MS, or CPA desirable
• 15+ years of construction accounting/finance experience
• Public accounting background preferred; CPA desirable

Responsibilities

• Lead the financial department across development, operations, risk management and executive leadership
• Plan, manage and coordinate all financial functions and reporting
• Oversee AR, AP, payroll, job costing, and close processes
• Lead CCIP reporting and audits with Risk Manager
• Develop and improve financial policies, controls, and processes
• Own evolution of financial systems with CEO and executive team
• Hire, train, and manage finance staff in partnership with HR
• Oversee credit and collections and cost reporting with PM leadership
• Ensure timely tax filings and regulatory reporting
• Deliver regular and ad hoc financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis
• Act as strategic advisor to ownership on financial decisions
• Lead annual budget process and long-term forecasts
• Oversee risk, CCIP, insurance, 401K and sales tax audits

About the Opportunity

An established, ground-up construction firm in the NYC/tri-state area is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead its finance function. This is a senior leadership role for a construction finance executive ready to serve as a strategic partner to ownership while overseeing all financial operations, controls, and reporting across a growing organization. The company name is confidential at this stage of the search.

What You'll Do

• Lead the financial department, coordinating across development, operations, risk management, executive leadership, and other departments
• Plan, manage, and coordinate all financial functions across the organization
• Lead negotiations and manage relationships with sureties and banks
• Provide timely, accurate analysis of budgets, results, and forecasts
• Oversee all transactional accounting functions, including AR, AP, payroll, and job costing
• Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and financial reporting
• Lead Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) reporting and audits in partnership with the Risk Manager
• Evaluate and continuously improve financial policies, controls, and processes to support efficient, scalable growth
• Own the evolution of financial systems in partnership with the CEO and executive team to support short- and long-term strategic goals
• Hire, train, mentor, and manage finance and accounting staff in partnership with HR
• Oversee credit and collections activity alongside Operations and Accounting
• Partner closely with Project Management leadership on cost reports, WIP analysis, and financial forecasting
• Ensure timely completion of all tax filings and related matters
• Deliver regular and ad hoc financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis
• Act as a strategic advisor to ownership and functional leadership on financial and business decisions
• Lead the annual budget process and present short- and long-term financial forecasts
• Oversee regulatory reporting, accounting policy, and all audit functions (financial, insurance, corporate, CCIP, 401K, sales tax)

What We're Looking For

• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA, MS, or CPA desirable
• 15+ years of construction accounting/finance experience required
• Public accounting background preferred; CPA desirable
• Strong track record building construction accounting processes and internal controls
• Experience hiring, training, developing, and managing accounting and finance staff
• Outstanding communication and team-building skills
• Strong accounting acumen paired with superior analytical skills
• Sound technical judgment and strong operational focus
• Proficiency across construction ERP systems; Sage 300 experience preferred
