Job summary

Burnett Specialists Staffing is seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer for a well-established general contractor. The CFO will be a key partner to executives, blending strategic growth with day-to-day financial management in a people-centric culture.

You will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, tax, risk, and IT, while collaborating with operations to drive profitability and long-term plans. This role requires deep GAAP knowledge and construction industry experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and Accounting degree required, and/or CPA is preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in financial reporting for the construction industry.
• Strong construction industry experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP, percentage of completion accounting, and local, federal, and state laws.

Responsibilities

• Interact with the Executive Team and employees daily.
• Develop and execute the financial strategy of the company.
• Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective action and minimizing variances.
• Propose an action plan to ensure annual financial objectives are attained.
• Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
• Control and manage the financial reporting, job reporting and general ledger process.
• Provide budget-to-actual analyses for G&A and reporting to management.
• Analyze financial data for variance analysis.
• Create and manage company budget and updated forecasts, including financial, backlog and cash forecast (2 year look ahead).
• Interact with owners for banking, insurance and surety requirements. Manage bank accounts and ledgers, daily deposits, transfers, reconciliations.
• Proper revenue and job cost reporting for work in process.
• Oversee and control Purchasing and Accounting.
• Oversee and control Human Resources (benefits, 401k).
• Oversee and Control Information Technology (IT Director and Asst IT Manager).
• Oversee and Control Legal and Risk Management, coordinating with outside counsel.

Chief Financial Officer Responsibilities

• Ability to actively engage and interact with the Executive Team and employees.

• Interact with owners for banking, insurance and surety requirements. This includes managing all bank accounts and ledgers: daily deposits, transfers, checks, wires, reconciliations and assisting with bank covenant compliance.

• Oversee and control Human Resources. This includes Employee Benefits (health, life insurance, 401k, etc.
• Oversee and Control of Information Technology. This Department consist of an IT Director and Asst IT Manager.
• Oversee and Control of Legal and Risk Management. Managing open legal issues and coordinating with outside counsel and management to strategize and direct legal response.
• Engaged participant of the Executive Team (Annual Business Plan and 5 Year Strategic Plan).
• Update/improve internal control procedures Monitoring effectiveness of internal controls and adherences to delegation of authority guidelines.
• Assist management in updating project reporting.
• Manage and report Federal & State taxes as needed.
• Potential limited travel.
• Keep Owner's updated on potential risk/exposures.

Chief Financial Officer Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and Accounting degree required, and/or CPA is preferred.
• Minimum 10 years? experience in the financial reporting for the construction industry.
• Strong construction industry experience.
• Knowledge of principles and practice of GAAP, percentage of completion accounting method, as well as local, federal, and state laws and regulations.
• Ability to understand and execute instructions through strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
