Job summary

Clayton Services in Houston seeks a Chief Financial Officer to lead the company’s financial strategy, accounting operations, FP&A, and long-term growth. This executive will balance strategic oversight with hands-on involvement in manufacturing finance.

The CFO will partner with the CEO and leadership team to optimize profitability, cash flow, and cost control while overseeing ERP systems and finance operations for a growing organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• MBA, CPA or similar advanced credential preferred.
• Previous CFO or senior financial leadership experience in manufacturing.
• Strong strategic finance, cost accounting and KPI development.

Responsibilities

Clayton Services is searching for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join a thriving, established company in Houston. The Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and will be responsible for leading the company's financial strategy, accounting operations, financial planning and analysis, and long-term growth initiatives. This position requires an experienced CFO with a strong background in manufacturing and the ability to operate at both the strategic and hands‑on level.

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $225,000 - $250,000 plus bonus

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Responsibilities:

• Lead the company's overall financial strategy and provide financial guidance to ownership and the executive leadership team.
• Oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning and analysis.
• Develop financial models, KPIs, dashboards, and reporting that provide leadership with greater visibility into company and departmental performance.
• Partner with operations, sales, purchasing, logistics, and other departments to improve profitability, efficiency, and decision-making.
• Evaluate margins, costs, pricing, labor, inventory, and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Provide financial leadership supporting the company's continued growth, including both organic expansion and potential mergers and acquisitions.
• Evaluate acquisition opportunities, perform financial due diligence, support transaction structuring, and assist with post-acquisition integration as needed.
• Oversee banking relationships, debt management, financial covenants, audits, tax matters, and other external financial relationships.
• Lead and develop the accounting and finance team while mentoring existing team members and building the department to support future growth.
• Assess current financial processes, controls, systems, and reporting practices and implement improvements where appropriate.
• Optimize the use of the company's ERP and other financial systems while identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement.
• Strengthen cost accounting, inventory reporting, margin analysis, and other financial disciplines important to a manufacturing environment.
• Provide thoughtful financial analysis and recommendations while having the confidence to challenge assumptions and present alternative strategies to executive leadership.
• Participate in long-term strategic planning, succession planning, capital allocation, and other major business initiatives.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Skills and Abilities:

• Strong strategic finance and executive leadership capabilities.
• Extensive understanding of manufacturing accounting, cost accounting, inventory, margins, and operational finance.
• Ability to translate complex financial information into practical business recommendations.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow, forecasting, budgeting, working capital, and profitability analysis.
• Experience working across multiple departments and influencing operational and strategic decisions.
• Strong leadership and team-development skills with the ability to mentor and develop accounting professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies and improve financial processes, systems, reporting, and controls.
• Strong ERP and financial systems experience; ERP implementation, optimization, or transformation experience is highly preferred.
• Mergers and acquisitions experience is highly preferred.
• Confident executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively with ownership, senior leadership, employees, lenders, accountants, and other outside partners.
• Hands‑on leadership style with the willingness to understand the details of the business rather than operating solely at a high level.
• Forward-thinking approach to technology, automation, data, and emerging tools that can improve financial and operational performance.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
• MBA, CPA, or other advanced professional credential is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience serving as a Chief Financial Officer is required.
• Previous CFO or senior financial leadership experience within the manufacturing industry is required.
• Experience leading the financial function of a substantial, growing organization is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated career stability and strong tenure with previous employers is required.
• Previous Controller or similarly hands‑on accounting leadership experience prior to advancing into a CFO role is strongly preferred.
• Experience with mergers, acquisitions, due diligence, integration, or other corporate development activities is highly preferred.
• Experience with cost accounting, inventory-intensive operations, ERP systems, and operational finance is highly preferred.
• Proven experience building, developing, and mentoring accounting and finance teams.
