CVS Health is seeking a Lead Director of Software Engineering in the Phoenix area to shape strategy and drive delivery at scale. You will lead a large engineering organization, set architectural standards, and partner with product and business leaders to translate strategy into executable bets.

This full-time role emphasizes AI-enabled engineering, scalable backend systems, and a culture of safety and quality.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large-scale engineering organizations.
• Hands-on foundation in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and backend engineering at scale.
• Proven AI platform ownership with production systems deployment and operations experience.
• Track record migrating monoliths to microservices and modernizing legacy platforms.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy across a multi-team engineering organization (50–150+ engineers).
• Embed LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows, and ML-powered automation into the lifecycle as production-grade differentiators.
• Own delivery at velocity with accountability for outcomes across teams.
• Partner at the executive level with Product, Data Engineers, and Healthcare leaders to translate strategy into bets.
• Be the technical voice in the room, addressing debt and advocating for appropriate engineering investments.
