Job summary

The Instructional Support Technician at Stony Brook University supports Organic and General Chemistry instructional laboratories and related courses. With over 1,000 undergraduates enrolled each semester, the role ensures functional instrumentation, standardized reagents, and adequate supplies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field required.
• Two (2) years of full time work/research experience in Chemistry or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist faculty in developing new laboratory experiments and materials for class teaching.
• Support active laboratory sessions and manage course preparation/stockroom.
• Assist in budgeting, including experimental cost analysis and registration/check-in of students.
• Hire student assistants and engage with course instructors to support pedagogy.
• Promote and enforce a rigorous safety culture in laboratories.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, repair, and modify instrumentation used in labs.
• Prepare and standardize solutions, reagents, and arrange for hazardous waste collection.
• Maintain accurate class attendance and breakage records.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field
