Job summary

Fives Landis Corp, Gardner Abrasives division, seeks a Chemist to join the on-site Rockford team in Illinois. The role focuses on testing, formulation support, and new product development within a quality-driven lab environment.

You will operate standard lab equipment, maintain thorough records, and assist in ISO 9001/14001 processes while collaborating with manufacturing and QA teams to ensure product quality and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry/physical science required.
• 0–3 years experience preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing on in-house blended materials for consistency and adjust as needed.
• Assist in formulation of products and provide information to manufacturing team.
• Mix, mold, and press lab samples for testing.
• Assist in development of new products.
• Operate lab equipment (including UTM, Grindo-Sonic, XRF, FTIR).
• Maintain records and data of tests and inspections.
• Support ISO 9001 and 14001 processes.
