Job summary

NOW CFO is partnering with an established, growing construction company in Utah to appoint its next Chief Financial Officer. You will lead the finance function, oversee budgets and cash flow, and develop the financial strategy to support sustainable growth on complex construction projects.

You will manage WIP schedules, job costing, and revenue recognition under ASC 606, while building a high‑performing team and strong controls. You’ll partner with owners to optimize bidding and profitability.

Qualifications

• Senior finance leadership in construction with GAAP and ASC 606 knowledge.
• Experience with WIP schedules, job costing, and revenue recognition.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex topics to owners.
• Proven ability to build and lead accounting/finance teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial strategy, budgeting, and long-term planning.
• Oversee WIP schedules, job cost reports, and billing analysis.
• Provide forecasting and cash flow planning across active projects.
• Own relationships with surety, bonding, and banking partners.
• Oversee revenue recognition under ASC 606 and percentage‑of‑completion accounting.
• Maintain strong financial controls and continuously improve job costing, billing, and month‑end close processes.
• Manage financial risks, including project margin fade, retainage, and working capital.
• Advise ownership on bidding strategy, project profitability, and growth planning.
• Lead and develop the accounting and finance team.
• Coordinate audits, reviews, tax planning, and year‑end reporting with outside CPAs.

NOW CFO is partnering with an established, growing construction company in Utah to find its next Chief Financial Officer. As CFO, you'll be the senior finance leader for the business. You'll give ownership clear visibility into job performance, cash flow, and profitability, and you'll build the financial strategy, team, and processes that support steady, sustainable growth.

We're looking for someone who has held a senior finance role in the construction industry. You should excel at strategic financial leadership and have hands‑on experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition under ASC 606. You understand the parts of construction finance that other industries don't have, such as retainage, change orders, bonding capacity, and project‑level cash management. You're also comfortable explaining those topics to owners in plain terms. Ultimately, you'll protect margins and help leadership make confident decisions about the work they bid, win, and build.

Responsibilities:

• Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and cash flow planning across active projects.
• Own relationships with surety, bonding, and banking partners, and prepare the financial packages they require.
• Oversee revenue recognition under ASC 606 and percentage‑of‑completion accounting.
• Maintain strong financial controls and continuously improve job costing, billing, and month‑end close processes.
• Manage financial risks, including project margin fade, retainage, and working capital.
• Advise ownership on bidding strategy, project profitability, and growth planning.
• Lead and develop the accounting and finance team.
• Coordinate audits, reviews, tax planning, and year‑end reporting with outside CPAs.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• CFO or senior finance leadership experience in the construction industry
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASC 606, and construction revenue recognition
• Experience preparing WIP schedules and working with surety and bonding companies
• Familiarity with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Sage Intacct Construction, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, or Procore)
• Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage, or equipment‑intensive operations (preferred)
• CPA (preferred)
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non‑financial stakeholders
• A hands‑on, accountable leadership style and a track record of building strong teams
