Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Certifying Scientist to join our team in Houston, TX. This role certifies and releases drug test results and reviews initial and confirmation data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. or advanced degree with clinical testing experience, or a Bachelor’s with several years of experience. The position requires attention to detail, teamwork, and willingness to work the 3rd shift with potential overtime.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Chemical or Biological Science OR a Master’s in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 1 year or more of clinical testing OR a Bachelor’s in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 2 years or more of clinical testing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Certify and release drug test results.
  • Perform certification review of initial and confirmation data.
  • Enter and report test results for all specimens.
  • Verify chain of custody, quality controls, and calibrations.
  • Provide technical, interpretive, and regulatory consultation and assistance to clients.
  • Ensure initial technical review is complete and accurate.
  • Perform GC/MS, LC/MS/MS and GC/FID certification per SOPs.
  • Follow quality procedures for security and confidentiality.
  • Review chain of custody procedures with accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and resolve quality control issues promptly.
  • Assist in preparation of litigation packages and affidavits as needed.
  • Consult with laboratory staff on routine testing issues.
  • Prepare and participate in inspections and audits.

Labcorp is seeking a Certifying Scientist to join our team in Houston, TX.

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 10:00pm-6:30am
Shift: 3rd, this position is eligible for a shift differential

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for certifying and releasing drug test results
  • Perform certification review of allinitialand confirmation data
  • Accurately enter and report test results for all specimens
  • Verification of all chain of custody documents, quality controls, and calibrations
  • Provide technical, interpretive, and/or regulatory consultation andassistanceto clients
  • Ensure theinitialtechnical review is complete andaccurate
  • Perform GC/MS, LC/MS/MSand GC/FID certificationin accordance withSOPs
  • Understand and follow quality procedures and protocols for security and confidentiality
  • Review and follow chain of custody procedures with accuracy and consistency
  • Identifyand resolve quality control issuesin a timely manner
  • Assistin preparation of litigation packages andaffidavitswhen necessary
  • Consult with laboratory technical staffregardingroutine testing issues and practices
  • Prepare andparticipatein inspections and audits whenrequired
  • Adhere to all regulatory and standard operating procedure requirements
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wearappropriate personalprotective equipment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemical or Biological Science OR Master’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 1 year or more of clinical testing OR Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology with 2 years or more of clinical testing experience
Preferred Qualification
  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • 3 months or more of Certifying Scientist or Toxicology experience
  • 6 months or more chromatography and/or mass spectrometry experience
Additional Job Standards
  • Certifying Scientist and Toxicology experience
  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Qualify as an NLCP Certifying Scientist in an appropriate time frame
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Excellent research and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at a given time
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
