Job summary

Labcorp’s Halsey Lab in Portland, OR is seeking a Special Chemistry Technologist to perform electrophoresis and related Special Chemistry testing, following departmental SOPs and delivering accurate results for patient care.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science or Medical Technology with ASCP/AMT certification, and ideally 1+ year’s clinical lab experience in Special Chemistry. Flexible casual/per diem scheduling is available; strong teamwork and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science or Medical Technology certification is required.
• ASCP or AMT certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Predominantly perform Electrophoresis testing and assist with other Special Chemistry testing.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Report accurate test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear PPE as required.

Work Schedule

Job Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
• Predominantly perform Electrophoresis testing and assist with other Special Chemistry testing
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science, Medical Technology ASCP or AMT certification

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience in Special Chemistry
