What You'll Do

The OR Tech II, under general supervision by the OR Manager/Surgery Center Manager, is a member of the OR Team, working with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesiologists, certified nurse anesthetists, and support personnel. Responsibilities include scrubbing for surgical cases, handling instruments, supplies, medications, media, specimens, and instrument cases. When fully trained, the OR Tech II assumes responsibility for call.

  • Demonstrates principles of asepsis and patient/staff safety. Manages the surgical field efficiently to minimize waste. Maintains supplies and equipment in assigned specialties.
  • Skills in scrubbing for all surgical specialties as observed by supervisors.
  • Uses clinical experience to assist in solving patient care problems.
  • Assists in implementing new policies and procedures, supports existing ones, and ensures procedure cards are accurate.
  • Validates OR personnel in specialty equipment and maintains inventory as directed.
  • Uses supplies responsibly, maintains equipment, and participates in evaluating new equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment and professional appearance.
  • Willing to teach and mentor other OR staff members.
  • Assumes call duties as scheduled and participates in staffing to meet service demands.
  • Exhibits teamwork, flexibility, and innovation. Communicates effectively, respecting patient confidentiality and hospital policies.
  • Participates in continued education and departmental committees.
  • Supports a culture of safety and performs related duties as requested.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program and certification, or equivalent experience as specified.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years as a surgical technologist.
  • Minimum 1 year hospital OR experience.
Licensure/Certifications
  • Certification as an OR Technologist required.
  • BLS certification preferred within 6 months of hire.
Skills
  • Clinical skills, focus, attention to detail, communication, accountability, teamwork, listening, reliability.
Physical Requirements
  • Medium work involving lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent and constant physical activities as detailed.
Hazards & Working Conditions
  • Occasional burns, radiation, exposure to bodily fluids, odors, no travel required.
Benefits & Compensation

Includes paid time off, insurance, retirement, and more. Salary ranges from USD $24.25 to $36.38 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
