Job summary

Ascension in Austin, TX is seeking a Surgical Technician to support Dell Seton Medical Center-UT. You’ll set up sterile field, help transport and position patients, and pass instruments and supplies during procedures to ensure safety and efficiency.

Requirements include BLS within 30 days, NBSTSA or NCCT credentialing within 6 months, and a High School diploma with required experience or an Associate's/Technical degree.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• Surgical Tech credentialed NBSTSA within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• Surgical Tech credentialed NCCT within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Responsibilities

• Set up sterile drapes, solutions, and necessary equipment, then assist in safely transporting, positioning, and prepping the patient for optimal surgical access and comfort.
• Proactively track the flow of surgery to anticipate surgeon requirements and efficiently pass instruments, medications, and supplies.
• Maintain a meticulously organized field while monitoring and counting all instruments, sponges, and sharps.
• Uphold sterile standards and situational awareness to protect patient safety and optimize workflow.

Education

High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Set up sterile drapes, solutions, and necessary equipment, then assist in safely transporting, positioning, and prepping the patient for optimal surgical access and comfort.
• Proactively track the flow of surgery to anticipate surgeon requirements and efficiently pass instruments, medications, and supplies.
• Maintain a meticulously organized field while strictly monitoring and counting all instruments, sponges, and sharps to eliminate the risk of retained items.
• Uphold rigorous sterile standards and continuous situational awareness across the entire procedure to protect patient safety and optimize workflow efficiency.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • One or more of the following:
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences

• Full Time Night Shift - 8:30pm-7:00am Monday-Thursday, No call, holidays assigned on rotation.
• OR CST Trauma experience
