Job summary

Methodist Hospital Northeast is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support high-quality operative care. You will work with the circulating nurse, prepare sterile supplies, and maintain a safe sterile field throughout procedures.

Education requirements include a high school diploma or GED, with a surgical technologist program preferred; exceptions for pre-9/1/2009 hires with 1 year hospital experience. Certification (CST or TS-C) is required where applicable, and you will follow AORN standards.

Qualifications

• Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
• Graduate of a surgical technologist program OR hires prior to 9/1/2009 may substitute with 1-year experience in a hospital setting as a surgical technologist.
• Experience: None required (unless used in lieu of education as stated above).
• Per Texas HB 643, surgical technologists entering practice after 09/01/2009 must have and maintain a surgical technologist certification. Individuals that performed in a surgical technologist position prior to 09/01/2009 are not required to obtain a surgical technologist certification.
• Must have and maintain ONE of the following: CST – Certified Surgical Technologist; TS-C – Tech in Surgery, Certified

Responsibilities

• Assist with delivery of quality surgical care by planning and anticipating the surgeon/procedure needs and coordinating with the circulating perioperative nurse during surgical procedures.
• Gather and prepare sterile supplies, equipment, preparing/maintaining the sterile field and assisting the surgeon by supplying sterile instruments/supplies to the sterile field in a safe and efficient manner.
• Perform routine scrub role and perform department-specific duties as delegated.
• Follow current AORN and regulatory standards and established policies and procedures of the System.
