Job summary

Ascension St. Vincent's Clay County Hospital in Middleburg, FL is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant to support the OR team.

The role focuses on patient positioning, exposure and safety during procedures, with emphasis on precise tissue handling and visibility of the surgical field. The candidate must hold BLS, plus NBSTSA or ABSA credentials within 12 months of hire; education includes a HS diploma or higher with relevant experience.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire date or transfer date required (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
• Surgical Assistant credentialed from NBSTSA or ABSA within 12 months of hire date or transfer date.

Responsibilities

• Expertly position and stabilize patients to optimize surgical site exposure while ensuring comfort and safety.
• Provide clear visibility of the surgical site using retraction, tissue manipulation, suctioning, and irrigation.
• Apply advanced techniques to achieve temporary and permanent bleeding control during procedures.
• Assist with closing body planes, applying wound dressings, and securing drainage systems.
• Collaborate with the team to set up the operating room based on surgeon preferences and assist with post-case cleanup.
