Job summary

Baptist Health System is seeking a skilled Surgical First Assistant to support the operating surgeon and the surgical team. The role involves direct and indirect technical care for surgical patients, ensuring safe and efficient invasive procedures.

The position requires graduation from a Surgical First Assistant program with certification eligibility within 120 days, Certified Surgical Technologist status, and BLS at hire with AHA BLS within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Surgical First Assistant program eligible for NBSTSA/ABSA/NSAA certification within 120 days.
• Must be Certified Surgical Technologist.
• Active Healthcare Provider BLS on hire; must obtain AHA BLS within 60 days.
• Minimum 1 year of recent operating room experience including direct patient contact and sterile technique.
• Preferred 2+ years of OR experience.
• Certification as a first assistant through NBSTSA, ABSA or NSAA; maintained via CE or recertification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the operating surgeon in patient care during surgery; provide direct and indirect technical care.
• Facilitate safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.
• Follow established practices and standards; complete competencies within introductory period.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
