Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Surgical Assistant to provide direct support to surgeons in the Main OR at the Indianapolis facility. You will position patients, manage visualization of the operative field, and assist with hemostasis and wound closure, ensuring safety and efficiency throughout procedures.

The role requires NBSTSA/NCCSA/ABSA credentialing prior to hire, BLS within 30 days, and appropriate education or experience as listed.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date; AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• Surgical Assistant credential from NBSTSA/NCCSA/ABSA obtained prior to hire date.
• Education: High School equivalency or higher with required experience.

Responsibilities

• Position patient to maximize exposure for the surgical procedure while ensuring comfort and safety.
• Provide visualization of the operative site including tissue manipulation, retraction, sponging, suction and irrigation.
• Assist with hemostasis using appropriate technique for temporary and permanent control of bleeding.
• Assist in body plane closure, dressings and drainage system securing.
• Support room cleanup and removal of used supplies and trash after the case.
• Participate as a surgical team member in prepping the suite per surgeon's preference cards.
