Job summary

Springfield Clinic is seeking a Surgical Assistant 1 who will act as First Assistant to the surgeon in operative procedures on a full-time basis in the OR and ASC settings. The role requires prior OR experience, certification as a Surgical First Assistant, and the ability to obtain privileges with the surgeon, plus strong teamwork and patient safety focus.

Responsibilities include assisting with patient positioning, field preparation, wound closure, orders and notes, on-call coverage, and OSHA

Qualifications

• Graduate of LPN or Certified Surgical Tech with First Assistant in OR.
• At least five years of OR experience.
• Current license and CPR certification per guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist as First Assistant in operative procedures at the OR/ASC.
• Obtain privileges and act as First Assistant to surgeon.
• Position patient and prepare the operative field, review instruments.
• Perform designated wound closures approved by surgeon.
• Write orders, progress notes and diagnostic information.
• Request supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Promote rapport with hospital/clinic personnel.
• May assist or rounds with attending surgeon.
• Review patient records, labs, and imaging as directed.
