Job summary

St. David's North Austin Medical Center is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant to join our operating team. You will provide essential aid in exposure, homeostasis, and other technical functions to help the surgeon perform safe operations for our patients.

You will assist in positioning, prepping, draping, and instrument handling, under surgeon’s direction, while adhering to hospital policies and applicable laws. This role supports the hospital's mission and patient care standards.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days of employment start date.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• (CSA) Certified Surgical Assistant or (CSFA) Certified Surgical First Assistant.
• (CST) Certified Surgical Technologist or (TS-C) Tech in Surgery - Certified.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during operations and ensure preparedness per back table and preference cards.
• Position patient, prep surgical site, and drape according to surgeon’s guidelines.
• Place pneumatic tourniquet and urinary catheter as directed.
• Maintain hemostasis and assist with instruments, sutures, and drains as needed.
• Retract tissues, clamp, ligate, and cut per surgeon’s directive.
• Close wound layers and prepare grafts as directed by the surgeon.
