Job summary

Heart Hospital of Austin within the St. David's HealthCare network seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist – Surgical First Assist to provide technical assistance in cardiovascular surgical procedures.

The CSTFA does not scrub during the CSTFA portion and may scrub when not assisting in the CSTFA role. Responsibilities include hemostasis, tissue handling, and wound closure under surgeon supervision, with opportunities to work across main ORs and CVORs.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate Degree-required
• Certifications: (CSA) Certified Surgical Assistant, or (CSFA) Certified Surgical First Assistant- required; BLS within 30 days of start date
• Experience: One year as a Certified First Assistant

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates sound knowledge of surgical techniques and assists surgeon and circulating staff.
• Provides hemostasis and tissue handling as directed by the surgeon.
• Assists in wound closure under surgeon supervision and may introduce instruments via trocar sites.
• May perform tasks in laparoscopy under direct supervision.
• Prepare grafts as directed by surgeon.
• Practices within CSTFA educational preparation and experience
