Job description

Compensation: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour. You are eligible for a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 5% of your annual earnings; terms and conditions apply.

Certified Professional Coder - Remote

The Certified Professional Coder is responsible for ensuring that claims reflect accurate diagnosis as ordered by the health care provider. The Certified Professional Coder validates that the coding methodology correctly reflects how the tests were performed and meets all state, federal, local, and payer guidance.

Essential Functions

  • Abstract relevant clinical and demographic information from the medical record to assign current ICD and CPT codes in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Identify principal and secondary diagnosis with minimal error.
  • Code narratives that are a one-to-one match and identify situations that do not meet the highest level of specificity.
  • Request diagnosis from physicians when information is not recorded.
  • Assist in pre and post payment audits to perform comprehensive review to assure presence of appropriate documentation.
  • Research new CPT/HCPCS codes as well as ICD 10 changes, deletions, or additions to ensure proper coding on claims.
  • May be assigned to research for denied claims.
  • Maintain and update certification as a professional certified coder.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in coding in a health care environment.
  • Professional Certification as Coder from a recognized professional organization.
  • Knowledge of CPT codes, medical terminology, insurance plans, ICD 10 codes.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of medical diagnostic and procedural terminology required.
  • Understands disease process, anatomy, and physiology necessary for assigning accurate numeric and alpha-numeric codes.

Preferred

  • 1+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred, especially genetic billing.
