Position Synopsis

We're expanding our revenue cycle team with a Virtual Medical Coding Specialist who will ensure accurate diagnostic and procedural coding for mental healthcare services. This position combines healthcare expertise with remote flexibility, allowing you to contribute to our mission while maintaining work-life balance.

Essential Functions

• Examine clinical documentation to assign precise diagnostic (ICD-10-CM) and procedural (CPT/HCPCS) codes
• Verify clinical documentation supports assigned codes and request provider clarification when necessary
• Ensure coding compliance with official guidelines, payer requirements, and healthcare regulations
• Participate in regular quality assurance reviews to maintain coding accuracy standards
• Collaborate with billing specialists to resolve coding-related claim denials
• Stay current with coding updates, healthcare compliance changes, and payer requirements
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives for coding workflows
• Document coding questions and resolutions for knowledge base development
• Complete coding assignments within established productivity and quality benchmarks
• Maintain patient information confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  

Qualifications & Expertise

• Medical coding certification required (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or similar credential)
• Minimum 2 years of professional medical coding experience in outpatient, behavioral health, or similar setting
• Thorough understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Experience with electronic health records and coding software
• Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills
• Strong communication abilities for effective virtual collaboration
• Self-motivated with excellent time management capabilities
• Ability to maintain productivity and quality standards independently
• Experience with behavioral health/mental health coding strongly preferred
