Job summary

University of California - Los Angeles Health is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician to join Support Services in Los Angeles. You will triage lab samples, prepare specimens, and ensure accurate data entry and labeling.

Responsibilities include centrifugation, aliquoting, transport coordination, quality control, and assisting in training new staff while maintaining infection control principles.

Qualifications

• California CPT certificate is required.
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• 2 years phlebotomy experience or 1 year inpatient hospital phlebotomy experience.
• Knowledge of clinical lab test names and abbreviations.
• Medical terminology understanding of body systems.
• Infection control procedures knowledge.
• Ability to interpret complex technical information and adapt to changes.
• Detail-oriented and able to work rapidly and accurately.
• Cooperative with Med Center staff and able to work independently.
• Strong English reading/writing to document protocols and patient data.
• Quality control and phlebotomy across all age groups.
• Experience with terminal/printer and LIS/EPIC systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Triage lab samples and requests following written protocols.
• Centrifuge, measure, aliquot and preserve as needed.
• Enter and verify patient/test info into computer and generate labels.
• Prepare samples for transport to referral labs or storage.
• File department documents in order and prepare reports of phlebotomy draws.
• Prepare documentation for batch or outside referrals.
• Maintain PM charts and inventory as needed.
• Support specimen and blood product transport within the health system.
• Operate laboratory equipment and assist in training new staff.
• Rotate bench assignments and adjust schedules as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
